Regroup Esports enters the console market

Press release, 17th July 2007

With the purchase of the world’s second largest Xbox community, Xbox Users Group, Regroup Esports is now ready to conquer a new, giant market within the gaming industry – the console market.

For already several years now Regroup Esports has built up know-how and in-depth experience in the business of e-sports. The team behind the company has thus seen possibilities in expanding this knowledge to new gaming fields, this time by purchasing Xbox Users Group (XUG), the second largest Xbox community in the world at www.thexug.com.

With the innovative and quite unusual purchase an e-sports company enters for the first time the giant international console market. A new step that will eventually bring two gaming worlds closer together as well as open up digital doors to a huge American target group.

“By purchasing XUG we hope to gradually bring together two separate gaming worlds – being respectively the world of consoles and the world of e-sports. We believe that such a mix will become useful and exciting to both gamer segments. In addition to this, the purchase is very attractive for us since 60 % of all users of the XUG are from the states – an area we’re very interested in getting to know better,” says Mark Peter Fries, CEO, Regroup Esports A/S.

More than just a fan site
According to XUG´s former owner and future Community Director, Cornelis van den Bosch, the new co-operation with Regroup Esports will also take the Xbox community to a higher level.

“A site like Xbox Users Group can only grow to a certain height as for a hobby and fan site. When Xbox Users Group over the years became this insane hobby, days, nights and weekends were spent to build up the site as it is today. But with the help of Regroup Esports, a giant in the gaming industry, XUG will in the future become much more than just a fan site. I’m looking much forward to this very interesting co-operation.”

Appearing for the first time in 2001 Xbox Users Group is one of the first sites of its kind in the world, being today the world’s second largest Xbox site. At present the site has 45.000 users who can – among others – post commentaries or questions about Xbox games and Xbox Live. Check out the site and all its features at www.thexug.com.

Terms and price of the XUG company purchase will not be disclosed.

About Xbox Users Group:

Xbox Users Group (XUG) Started in 2001 as a small community on MSN Communities and moved quickly to a dot com, that same year XUG started with a forum board and started to build a site around it.  XUG got a Webby Award in 2003 and became Community Member at Xbox.com.  In 2005 XUG got awarded by Xbox.com with the most prestigious title "Friends of Xbox'.  In January 2006 Cornelis van den Bosch got awarded with the prestigious MVP (2006-2007) award. With the help of many XUG grew to what it is today with almost 45.000 members.

The world's biggest in 12 months

Press release, 10th April 2007

Having just received a large amount of money from external investors Regroup Esports is now ready to reach their goal: to establish the world's biggest e-sports organisation within the next 12 months. The investment capital is among others supposed to help embracing the giant Chinese market.

Regroup Esports has just received a million-dollar amount in venture capital from the venture fund SEED Capital. The money has been earmarked for growth in Regroup Esports´ focus areas in e-gaming being the world's leading professional e-sports club, Meet Your Makers, in particular.

- Because of the continuously growing traffic on our websites and the large number of members in our databases, I can almost promise that we'll reach our goal - to be the world's biggest e-sports organisation - in 2007. We are already among the 20 most visited sites in Denmark. And the development continues with explosive haste. Especially in Asia, where we have just opened up an office in Beijing, China. We are quite popular in the "Middle Kingdom". For instance the Chinese government has chosen Regroup Esports as partner in the world's biggest e-gaming tournament, which is to be launched in 2007 with the participation of 90 million students from Chinese institutions of higher education, says Jakob Dreyer, vice-president in Regroup Esports´ board of directors.

Partner in SEED Capital, Lars Andersen, has great expectations to his investment in the Danish e-gaming company, whose business strategy he finds very promising.

- We have chosen to support Regroup Esports for several reasons: First of all e-gaming is in extreme growth. According to statistics the number of gamers worldwide will reach 400 millions within this decade and thus become bigger than football as well as all other sports when it comes to the number of participants. And having in-depth knowledge in the business, sports and marketing area the people behind Regroup Esports form a really strong team. The company has a clear and realistic strategy and is very professional, says Lars Andersen.

Vice-president Jakob Dreyer for his part is looking much forward to having SEED Capital represented in Regroup Esports.

- It is crucial for a company like ours to understand how to work and expand globally. And this is best done with help from partners who knows how to globalise business strategies and who, at the same time, have the important contacts in the global investment business. SEED Capital is a very competent partner in both matters, says Jakob Dreyer.

IT Trade Union New Head Sponsor for Danish ESWC Qualifier

Press release 30th March 2007

The Danish trade union for among others the IT business, Dansk Metal (The Danish National Union of Metalworkers), has just agreed to become head sponsor of the Danish ESWC preliminaries.

Dansk Metal, a Danish trade union that organizes people with mechanical, technical, electronic and information technical understanding, is now officially the new head sponsor of the Danish preliminaries to the Electronic Sports World Cup 2007. The agreement has just been made and probably surprises many people as a trade union as head sponsor of an e-sports event might seem a little unconventional at first. However, there are plenty of good reasons for Dansk Metal to choose this kind of sponsorship.

- With this sponsorship we would like to tell people what we are and what we can in Dansk Metal. We are responsible for more than 80 educations, most of them from the IT world, where we have more than 25,000 Danish members in all age groups. We know from former e-sport events and tournaments that a lot of the IT students are interested in computer games and e-sport. With this sponsorship we thus hope to be able to show who we are and get to know our members - and future members, says Michael Antonsen, secretary in the IT department of Dansk Metal.

It's not the first time the Danish trade union shows interest in the computer business. During the last year the union has been present at several national e-sports events, and in February they launched their own clan sponsorship to one of Denmark's strongest Counter-Strike clans.

- It's no longer enough for us to be present with a booth at e-sports events. We want to get deeper into this world and we want to be on the same level as the real gamers.  This sponsorship will help us reaching this goal while at the same time supporting an innovative and interesting event, says Michael Antonsen.

E-sports towards general reorganization

As announced earlier this month, the global e-sports company Regroup Esports, who is, among others, behind Meet Your Makers, is holding the Danish ESWC 2007 preliminaries in corporation with D3 Copenhagen (former D3 Expo) and SLAP.DK. All three organizers are very pleased with the new agreement with Dansk Metal.

"It is a great pleasure for us all to present the new head sponsor of the Danish ESWC Qualifier 2007, Dansk Metal. The fact that a trade union shows such great interest in supporting an e-sports event shows us that this business is becoming more commonly recognized - and of general interest for others than just dedicated gamers. Besides, Dansk Metal is a large Danish organization with a great number of members who are interested in computers and e-sports, so the deal is in many ways a win-win situation," says Mark Peter Fries, CEO in Regroup Esports A/S.

The Danish Qualifier finals will be held in the largest Scandinavian shopping mall  Field´s Copenhagen on the 2nd June 2007, where Dansk Metal will be presented at a booth for those interested. Before the finals three pre qualifiers will be held as well: cK LAN (Jutland), SLAP Live (Sealand) as well as an online qualifier on the internet.

Present in over 50 countries in the form of a national licence, the ESWC relies on a network of strategic partners who all share the same passion and are players in a common adventure: becoming the foremost international electronic sports federation. Each of these national bodies supervises local qualifying rounds and produces an ESWC National Final to determine who will take part in the ESWC Grand Final

Regroup Esports purchases DotaPortal.com

As part of a brand new and worldwide e-sports project with the working title “Project X-5”, the company Regroup Esports A/S now buys the world’s second largest DotA community by the name Dotaportal. The purchase gives DotA fans a much improved, in-depth and continuously up-to-date DotA site in the nearest future.

The Danish based but internationally operating company, Regroup Esports A/S, can today announce the purchase of the world’s second largest DotA community, also known as Dotaportal, which can be found at www.dotaportal.com. The site is an online “Defence of The Ancients” community and forum featuring everything needed for both casual and professional DotA players.  Today the community counts more than 300.000 registered users from all over the world.

“We are glad to announce the purchase of Dotaportal by Regroup Esports, who – among others -already owns one of the world's leading e-sports organisations, Meet Your Makers, and thus having in-depth knowledge about e-gamers and gaming communities. We believe this will take the DotA community to a higher gaming level. With the joint forces of Regroup Esports A/S and www.dotaportal.com, DotA players will have access to more quality resources and take part in professional DotA tournaments. Together, we will build a better DotA community and that's our promise,” states Kevin Nguyen, DP Community Director at Dotaportal.com.

“The purchase of Dotaportal was a key factor for one of our latest projects, the new gaming/community project with the not so revealing working title "Project X-5”, which Regroup Esports A/S is currently building. Dotaportal is a very active DotA community and fits well in our internet portfolio and the above mentioned network project. We are looking much forward to see how it will evolve in the future,” says Mark Peter Fries, CEO, Regroup Esports A/S.
